Sun Goddesses evoke strength and light, warmth and power, and in much of the ancient world, the sun was cast as a goddess, and the moon as a god. When British folklorists, poets and antiquarians of the 19th and 20th centuries generally cast goddesses into fixed roles of Moon, Mother and Earth, the mighty sun goddesses were mainly eclipsed, their fires dampened. The Sun goddesses had played an important role in the understanding of the cycles of the year, of agriculture and animals and of times to plant, and in the dark northern realms, the importance of the light returning.
Some are associated with healing and rejuvenation. From the Celtic lands of Britain, Ireland and Europe; to Scandinavia, the Baltic lands and Turkic myths, and Japan to the East and to Africa North to South, and the Americas, we will traverse the earth and discover them, those well-known and those less remembered. What can they tell us? What will they show us? How do they relate to us today?
With illustrated talks, discussion, magical journeying, crafting, invocations, oracles and ceremony. Please bring a packed lunch. Light refreshments and materials are included and you're welcome to join us for a drink afterwards.
Places are limited. Please note that this is a private home with cats, and let us know if you have any allergies, as there may be foods with gluten and nuts. All are welcome who come in goodwill. Please let us know if you need parking.
